Michael Gossen Bio

Greetings from Harlan and Salem Elementary School! I am pleased to serve the Mount Pleasant Community School District as Principal at Harlan and Salem Elementary. Harlan Elementary is located just North of Iowa Wesleyan University, and is made up 220+ students in grades K-5, and Salem Elementary is located in Salem Iowa (just south of Mount Pleasant), and includes 100+ students K-5. Before I came to Mount Pleasant, I began my teaching career at Des Moines Christian School, teaching and coaching for 10 years. I then began my career for the Mount Pleasant Community School district in 2014, serving as the Associate Principal at the Middle School. In 2017 I became the principal of both Harlan and Salem Elementary.

 

I firmly believe that every student has an amazing capacity to "...achieve without limits." I also believe that every student can and will learn, they just need the right supports to bring it out of them. Emerson once wrote, "Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be." I believe we have the right people, the right practice, and the right determination to make that happen for every student that walks through our doors.
